Craig McDean, from car mechanic to fashion photographer …

McDean, born 1964 England, started his career in photography as assistant to the famous photographer Nick Knight. The first magazines who believed that this guy had potential were i-D and The Face. Later on, when people started to notice Craig he was asked to shoot advertising campaigns for clients such as Jil Sander and Calvin Klein. And then it all kicked off.
Nowadays McDean shoots fashion campaigns for major clients as Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, and Estée Lauder.
His editorial spreads are regularly featured in magazines including Vogue, W, and Another Magazine. Although his ‘real’ job is to shoot fashion, McDean isn’t ‘dirty’ off shooting celebs such as Madonna, Natalie Portman, Justin Timberlake, Uma Thurman and Megan Fox. With this latest one Fox and her undressed doppelganger mannequin, he did a ‘provocative’ shoot for Interview Magazine.

Craig McDean was originally trained and worked as a car mechanic …

He is represented by Art + Commerce in New York.
